Jelly Loves: Los Angeles

Spread the Jelly has been sharing news of all of the people near and dear to us that need support due to the devastating fires that have plagued Los Angeles this week. While we will continue to support our network, we would be remiss to acknowledge the surrounding areas outside of Malibu, the Palisades and Pasenda. LA is a vast and diverse community and we want to remember that all residents need assistance right now. Our combined efforts will also be used to reach and support the families that have been displaced in Altadena - a historically Black and Brown neighborhood that is not receiving as much media attention as other areas.

Please take the time to read through some of the many stories of families and businesses where contributions can go to help them through this devastating time.

Within the network, we have an extensive list of families (that is growing) who need our support!

Find details within this link for more information and ways to support anyone displaced by the LA fires.

My 4-year-old child and I have faced the unimaginable—our lives were completely destroyed in the Palisades Fire. In a matter of moments, the life I worked so hard to create as a single mother went up in flames. Our cherished memories and the safe space we called home are gone as we know it.

I never thought I’d ever be in a position where I’d need to ask for help like this. You never think it will happen to you—until it does. The shock and overwhelming loss we’re experiencing has left me feeling incredibly lost, and asking for support in this way is humbling beyond words. But as I try to piece together a sense of stability for my child and myself, I realize I can’t do this alone.

Your kindness and generosity will help us begin our lives from the bottom up and create a new place where my child can feel secure and at peace again. As a single mother, I was already facing challenges as the sole provider for my child. Then, the unimaginable happened: we lost our entire neighborhood. Homes, schools, the library, and parks where laughter once filled the air—all gone. We left with hardly anything except the clothes on our backs, but I left with the one thing that matters most: my child. We are safe, sound, and resilient.

My name is Nadine, and on the morning of January 8, 2025, I woke up to the devastating news that everything I had was gone—lost to the fires that swept through Los Angeles. My home in Altadena, CA, was my safe haven, and I truly believed we were out of harm's way. But nature had a different plan, and now I find myself without a home, holding onto my three young children—my 1-year-old twin boys and my 3-year-old son—trying to figure out how to start over.

This has been the hardest moment of my life, but I know I can’t do it alone. I need to rebuild our lives from scratch, and I’m reaching out to my friends, family, and community for help. We’ve lost everything, and I need to replace everything—from the basics (clothes, toys) to the things that make a house a home (furniture and kitchen accessories).

Your kindness and support mean more to me than words can express.

Maria Moran

Donate here

My name is Johnny Cosio, and I am reaching out on behalf of my mother, Maria Moran, a resilient and hardworking single mother of four boys and a proud owner of three beloved dogs. A few years ago, my mom achieved a lifelong dream: she purchased her first home. Unfortunately, that dream was shattered when the Altadena Fire devastated her house, leaving her with nothing but the clothes on her back.

Maria lost all her belongings—precious memories, furniture, and the foundation she had worked so hard to build. Now, she is starting over from scratch, and we are seeking your support to help her get back on her feet.

Maria is a selfless woman who has dedicated her life to her family and her community. Even with arthritis and declining health, she has managed to run her own small business and provide for her family. However, due to her health, she cannot drive on freeways and needs to find a new place to live close to her office in Pasadena. A safe, nearby home would allow her to continue working and regain stability.

On January 8th 2025, tragedy struck Akilah, her husband Brandon, their precious 3-month-old daughter, Sienna, and their beloved dog. A fire tore through their home and car in Altadena, CA, leaving them with nothing but the clothes on their backs. As first-time parents and pet owners, this devastating loss has upended their lives, and they are now facing the immense challenge of starting over.

We are asking for your help to support Akilah, Brandon, baby Sienna, and their dog as they work to rebuild their lives.

The Benn Family

My name is Loren and I’m the eldest of my 7 siblings. My family is facing unimaginable devastation after wildfires completely destroyed our home in Altadena, CA. Overnight, my parents, my five siblings, and three babies were displaced, losing absolutely everything we’ve ever ownedincluding furniture, clothes, personal belongings, beds, and multiple family vehicles. The only things they have left are the few clothes they evacuated with. Everything else is gone.

To make matters worse, my grandmother, who lived just around the corner, also lost her home. Her house was a generational safe haven for many of our family members, who are now displaced as well.

We have always been a resilient family, but this devastation has left us struggling to find our footing. Right now, my family is staying in a hotel while we search for longer-term housing. The financial strain of rebuilding our lives is overwhelming, and we need help.

Ahmere and His Daughters

Donate here

My name is Ahmere I’m from Pasadena, Ca, I am a father of 4 girls and I just recently lost my home where I was raising 3 of my daughters due to the Eaton Canyon fires in Altadena, Ca. We evacuated the night before the fires due to the strong winds we were having in our area. We left strictly because we wanted to get a good nights sleep without hearing the wind banging things around all night so we only packed a few things just for an over night stay at their grandparents house in Redlands. Little did we know, that would be the last time we’d ever be in our home again with all of our valuable belongings because over night our home tragically burnt down along with 80% of the communities homes.

Aside from being a primary care giver for my children I am a self employed Barber/DJ and all my softwares and equipment are destroyed. So now I’m here just asking for a small helping hand to help us get back to our normal lives and I can get back on my feet and continue to help the community. The funds will go towards supply’s for the kids and towards getting me and my girls into a new home. We are all in good spirits and will be grateful for any help.

Oren Waters

Donate here

It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of an unimaginable loss within the Altadena community. Oren Waters, an iconic figure in music and entertainment, as well a beloved member of our Altadena community, has been profoundly affected by the recent Eaton Canyon fires.

Oren’s personal home, as well as a nearby property he owned were both tragically destroyed. These homes were not just places to live, but spaces filled with decades of memories, love, and creativity. They housed countless treasures, including gold and platinum records, and irreplaceable mementos from Oren’s remarkable career as a vocalist and performer.

Oren was forced to evacuate with little more than the clothes on his back. The loss is immeasurable, but his faith remains steadfast, and his strength inspires us all during this incredibly challenging time.

Let us come together as a community to support Oren and his family as they work to rebuild their lives and navigate this painful transition. Your generosity and compassion can make a world of difference during this difficult time.

Ms. Arlynn

Donate here

For over 20 years, my mother, Ms. Arlynn, has been a cornerstone of our community. Through her work as an educator and community leader, she has fostered connection and creativity by teaching art and gardening programs, organizing cultural events, creating safe spaces, and uplifting those around her.

Tragically, the fire destroyed not only our family home but also the school where Ms. Arlynn worked, along with other essential workspaces. This loss has left our family in a state of uncertainty as we work to rebuild our lives and regain stability.

Fortunately, we have been able to address immediate challenges, such as securing essentials like food, medication, and basic supplies, thanks to the incredible support of the wonderful people in our lives who stepped in to help us. Nevertheless, we face significant long-term concerns about financial stability, particularly regarding employment, as the loss of the school has directly impacted my mother’s livelihood.

Anabela Vega

Donate here

Hello my name is Martha Nova I’m reaching out to try to raise money for my aunt Anabela Vega and her family, who tragically lost their home in the Altadena fire, along with so many others in the community. Devastatingly, she lost everything in the fire—precious memories and belongings that she will never be able to get back. The past few years have already been incredibly hard for her—struggling with the loss of her mother, a cancer diagnosis, and other medical challenges. Now, this unimaginable loss is yet another hardship she shouldn’t have to face as we move into 2025. If you’re able to donate, anything helps and would mean the world to her and her family during this difficult time.

Thank you for your kindness…We are asking for your support, no matter how big or small, to help them get back on their feet.

Zetta Robinson

Donate here

My name is Keinon and my sister Taci and I are writing on behalf of our sweet grandmother, Zetta Robinson (81), who recently lost her home of nearly 50 years to the Eaton Fire in Altadena, CA.

Our family never imagined we would need to search for words to explain the devastation that comes with watching our grandma go through a disaster like this. Our grandma lost one of her only connections to a lifetime of memories and the ability to enjoy a home she worked years to build.

Grandma Zetta has lived alone since our Grandpa passed away in 2021. In this time she has really thrived independently and has faced every challenge with absolute grace and an incredible amount of patience. She even took over tending the garden our grandpa built years ago. The Eaton fire took the house our late Grandpa Ray built the roof on, their garden we spent countless weekends in as children, irreplaceable family photos and so much more.

There are likely not enough words to describe what an absolute pillar to the community our grandma is, but selfless, loving, kind, understanding, and strong scratch the surface. Zetta is a retired nurse and avid volunteer who still works through her church to fundraise through local CROP Walks and organizations like Friends in Deed.

This fire has taken away our grandma's ability to live independently as a senior citizen. Her independence is something she has worked so hard for and has always been proud of. The thought of her losing this ability is tantamount to almost anything else she has lost. While a large amount of the physical items consumed in the fire were irreplaceable in sentimental value, we want to make sure she has what she needs in this difficult time. Funds will go towards essentials like medical care, temporary housing, clothing, food, etc., and supporting her on her journey to recovery after this immense loss.

The Wallace Family

Donate here

Hi, my name is Miles. I’m reaching out to ask for your help after my family lost our home in the Eaton Fire. This wasn’t just a house it was where we made a lifetime of memories. It was the home I grew up in, passed down to us by my late grandmother, who poured her heart into keeping it in our family for over 50 years. There are seven of us in the Wallace family, and this loss has turned our lives upside down. We’re struggling to figure out what comes next, trying to find a place to stay and cover the basics like food, clothing, and other essentials. It’s hard to put into words how much this home meant to us how much my grandmother’s love and hard work was woven into every corner of it. If you’re able to help, whether it’s through a donation, sharing our story, or simply keeping us in your thoughts, it would mean everything to us. Your kindness will help us start to rebuild, not just a house, but the foundation of our family’s life and legacy. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to read this and for any support you can offer.
